Recollection of this picture from the Photographer Phil Bray :- Stanley was a big player in his day. I believe he won the Billboard or some other award for Jazz Musician of the year one year in the 70's. He was also know as the 'mean' Mr. T.' It was not a bad 'mean' but referred to his bold cutting style on the horn. So we decided to play off of that in the studio shot. He had performed late the night before and we had him stay up so when we photographed him in the morning he would have this tough look. He was really the sweetest guy in the world so this photo was never used by the record company and we went with a live shot instead.
