It isn't as pretty as The Golden Gate Bridge, built around the same time, 1936, during The Great Depression, but it is 7 times longer and each day it carries millions of cars, trucks and buses each way on 5 lanes across San Francisco Bay.
Still regarded after all these years as a marvel of American bridge architecture,public art and functionality. Also esthetically pleasing to the eye. She took a massive hit in the 1989 Great Earthquake that rocked the east end off its hinges. East end rebuilt but it took over a decade. Nothing to boast about. Still a great old beauty from San Francisco to Yerba Buena Island.
