Sunday night June 29,2008, on a walkover in a big Asian city. We were chagrined. We've never seen a destitute beggar, even without an infant, yakking away on a cell phone. Maybe things are not as bad as they appear to be or maybe this mother has her priorities all mixed up. We don't know. We made a donation anyway. From our personal observation of the worldwide charitable organizations they are no more than scams. If you want to help do it yourself. Reach into your pocket and give to the needy you see all around you each day. Someone told us later that a criminal mafia controls all the beggars and they receive a small percentage of the take in return for being allowed to beg on the street. We gave anyway.
