Between 1892-95, Picasso was enrolled at the Instituto da Guarda in La Coruna where his father had recently accepted the position as professor.

Later in his life Picasso said that he favoured the paintings he did under his father’s supervision than the work he completed at art school in Barcelona.

He would keep several of his La Coruna canvasses, including Girl with Bare Feet, in his personal collection until his death in 1973.
