Shanghai Shuts Down 1900 Websites – Selling Pornographic and Improper Content

The authorities in Shanghai have started the crackdown on porn images being downloaded to mobile phones, which are then are distributed from friend to friend on the mobile networks. They are even being spammed to get the images out virally

Features :-

• The porn photos and videos, "a cancer on the wireless Internet," were widely spread among about 18 million Shanghai mobile-phone users

• The city has closed 2,000 unregistered Websites

• Shanghai branches of China Mobile and China Telecom canceled 69 contracts of companies providing obscene content

• Consumers have been receiving more than 10 short messages each day asking them to visit such Websites

• Many of the Websites were based on servers outside the Chinese mainland.
